Some Rooflight FAQs

  • Are rooflights too hot or too cold?

We can efficiently regulate the temperature of your facility utilising the latest glass technology and structural glazing techniques, giving you rooflights great thermal efficiency and low U-values. Also, with various glazing options available presently, we can provide a suitable glazing specification that matches your purpose. This implies manufacturing a rooflight that warms up the building in cold months and cools it in the hot months, ultimately reducing energy bills.

  • Is planning permission needed for rooflight?

Usually, installing rooflights or roof lanterns needs no planning permission, since the permitted development rules allow roof changes under certain conditions and limits. But there are cases where fitting rooflight needs planning permission. Based on this, we recommend that you discuss with your local planning authority before starting any roof alterations.

  • Does rooflights produce noise?

There has been great advancement in glazing technology over time. Rooflights are not like the plastic conservatory sheet, which is obviously noisy during rainfall. But rest assured that our rooflight installation will be as quiet and as comfortable as possible.

  • Are rooflights a good idea?

An important benefit of rooflight is the introduction of quality daylight which is good for our physical and mental health. With rooflights, you cut down the cost of the energy bill. CO2 emission is also reduced! Rooflights also provide an attractive focal point for buildings. Adding rooflights to an existing building or a new extension is a great idea. Contact us if you need them.

  • How do you clean a rooflight?

Most glass products require periodic cleaning. So does your rooflight. We recommend fitting the rooflight slightly at an angle, usually 5 degrees to allow for easy draining of rainwater and dirt. But if you care, we can design a glass with easy cleaning coating to help with cleaning.

  • What’s the cost of installing a rooflight?

The cost depends on your roof size and builder. At Pelle Glazing, all our rooflights are pre-assembled in the factory and delivered fully assembled and completely weatherproof. This makes the fitting simple and efficient. An average-sized rooflight is expected to take about 1 hour to install. Most times, your builder gets to fit the rooflight. What we do know is that most builders would oblige to installing the rooflight. However, talk about this with your builder before placing an order.
